Lean Hybrid Muscle Radio Interview

Under Hybrid Muscle Interviews, Recent Posts

I want to apologize to you.

First, like Mike and I mentioned several weeks ago when we launched our Lean Hybrid Muscle blog… we are really excited about the prospect of burning fat and building muscle with “Hybrid Muscle” training and “Type III Muscle” building.

BUT…

We’re both also SUPER busy with our businesses and me with my family… in fact, I had to cancel classes at my gym today to run home and care for Isabelle (my 5 year old), since she awoke with a toothache this morning.

Forgive us ;)

Look, I am just SHOCKED at the overwhelming response from everyone about our project!

Also, last week I gave you super short notice about a radio show interview that I was asked to conduct… the truth is that I had no idea about the interview until the night before and was completely unprepared. — Sorry!

It seems that word is traveling far and wide about our “Lean Hybrid Muscle” project! Popular radio shows and most recently a major fitness magazine have been seeking the counsel of Mike and I about all the buzz.

So, I figured since Isabelle is taking a nap now and the other girls are out with their mom…. that I’d hook you up with a replay of the show. You can hear it in the player below.

“tire “(+)” rope”(+)” 175lb landscaping rock”(+)”following the glorious LHM rules”(+)”dedicating 30 to 45 mins 4times a week”= a tougher, stronger, leaner me
And that is exactly how simple it was. Hi my name is Ray and the past 5 years the way that i have stayed in shape and lean was by training for racing bmx, using sprinting drills and powerlifting(but never consistently with the in gym stuff). This was my first year that i decided not to race bmx due to some injuries, money and finishing school (health and fitness degree), although i still do ride for fun a couple days a week. With not racing bmx i found the lack of motivation to sprint anymore and pick up a new interest in becoming as strong as possible.
Well, i spent lots of days a week in the gym having dynamic upper/lower days and max effort upper/lower days. and it was great for about 3 months. i had noticed great strength gains. Unfortunately i peaked out in strength and had a hell of a time trying to stay lean amd was forced into cutting back on certain foods which porbably effected my strength gains.
Wasn’t until the day i started reading on Hulsestrength. com that i realized full body exercises(strongman for example) was the way to do things if i really wanted to become a “mean lean machine.” After reading article after article after article, i put some ideas together, put them into strongman circuit training and went with it.
Been 3 months on this program, with the major help of this website on my way and all i can say is i look at myself and say “danm!”, not only am i stronger, more flexible and tougher but i am super lean!

Like to throw a HUGE! thank you to Elliot and Mike for the articles and knowledge you two distribute to the public, you keep me motivated to continue my studying of exercise science

Okay here it goes. About six months ago I was laid off from my job and was looking for ways to save money and cut expenses.

I was getting lazy and hadn’t been going to the gym as often as I should have. So I wasting money on the membership plus I was putting on some pounds in the stomach area.

What I decided to do was set up a workout area in my garage. I started off doing dumbbell circuits. I’d do this for 45-minutes about 5 times a week.

It was easier for me to stick with this schedule because it gave me a break from my job searching online.

I set up six exercises in a row. I would say to myself okay make it through all six exercises for four rounds and I’m done. Each time I try to just finish a little faster but using the same weights.

I was doing exercises like clean and press, lunges, squats, rows, snatches.

This feels hybrid to me because i’m using weights but I’m also getting my cardio in during the same workout. I have noticed that I’ve gone from a size
38 waste to a 32 in the six months so far. My arms have grown by an inch and I can finish my circuits in 30-minutes now so I know my heart is stronger.

having been laid off I’ve spent a lot of time online but glad to find good solid information like from this site. Gotta give you props. My story isn’t amazing, but I’m proud of it and thanks for considering me guys. I hope to be able to try some of your routines.

Oh by the way I’m 5′9 about 190. Down from 210 which is good. I also switched to kettlebells since I heard those are more versatile and look forward to hearing your input on how to incorporate kettlebells into hybrid training.

This is hard for me to do, but I want to win the program or the consultation so I’m going to lay it on the line for you. I’m not the best story teller but it all started five years ago when I married my beautiful wife Lisa.

Before we got married with both made a promise to each other that we would never become that couple that let themselves go just because they were married. You know how some people get fat and say meet you at the fridge honey! We’ve all seen it happen, you know what I’m talking about.

It’s a sad thing, my wife loves me no matter what, but I broke that promise to her. It wasn’t overnight but it was over time. I packed on the pounds, but the wrong kind. I ballonned up to 265 lbs! I weighted 210 when we got married.

You know I would go to the gym, but I wasn’t busting my butt and I barely ever did cardio. It’s just so boring and never felt like it did anything for me. But in Jan of 09 I found my marriage on shaky ground. Sex life sucked, my confidence was horrible, I was feeling low energy and lazy. What made me feel the worst was I could tell my wife was starting to think I had gained too much. Couple comments here and there and it’s pretty easy to get the hint.

That’s when I made up my mind to take matters into my own hands. I’m 38 years old now and i wanted to get back to my fighting weight from my bachelor years. What I did was EDT workouts by Charles Staley on Mondays and Wednesdays every morning at 6am. Than on Fridays I would do upper body followed by the versa climber and on Saturdays I’d do lower body followed by sled pushing. I’m still a work in progress but think I’m really hitting these type III muscle fibers you’re talking about. It really feels like hitting two birds with one stone training this way.

I know this is corny or whatever but it’s true, I’m in better shape and my romance life is too. Been at it for 4-months now, making great progress and excited to add some new implements to my training to keep things interesting. I’m happy I found this community of like minded people that can support each other. Chose me as the winner! – NATE
