A Peek Inside My Supplement Cabinet!
Mike’s Current Favorite Supplements
1) Joint Support - Used to take TKE Joint Boost but can’t find it anymore. Looking for a replacement that has the ingredients glucosamine, chondroitin, msm and shark cartilage. Trying the NOW brand right now but can’t tell yet if it’s working.
2) Multi-Vitamin - This one is pretty much common sense. I think even people that don’t work out take this supplement.
3) Kre-Alkalyn – I’m happy with Hyper Gain by AS Research. It also has ZMA and tribulus in it which boosts testosterone. If you’re under 21, your testosterone is probably soring so might want to use a different brand like All American EFX. Kre-Alkalyn doesn’t need a loading phase, absorbs better and doesn’t cause some of the side effects that some people experience with regular creatine monohydrate. This stuff gives your muscles energy to work harder.
4) Jacked Up - I haven’t had my test levels measured lately, but I’ve been feeling great. The easiest way to get a pulse on your testosterone levels is to monitor your sex drive. (For your preMed students I’m talking about boners…you know “morning wood”)
5) UltraLife Greens - I don’t always get all the veggies I should, so this is an easy way to add some of those nutrients to my shakes.
6) Glutamine - If I make a protein shake before bed I’ll throw in a 5-10 grams of glutamine. It’s an amino acid that’s suppossed to aid recover. Been using the bb.com Higher Power brand. It could be suspect though, cheaper is not always best.
7) Digestive Enzymes – This one is new for me. I just started taking these in November. I found the study that I mentioned in the video above. I posted it below for you.
“The critical role of enzymes in the maintenance of health and well-being was dramatically demonstrated in an experiment now known as “The Pottenger Cat Studies,” which was performed by Francis Pottenger, M.D., in 1946.
For ten years, Dr. Pottenger studied two groups of cats who lived in outdoor pens which were placed side by side. At the beginning of the experiment, the two groups were as identical in health and characteristics as possible. During the course of the entire experiment, one group was fed exclusively cooked food; the other group was fed only raw food. Although the foods given the two groups were identical in kind and amount, the cooked food was devoid of enzymes (enzymes are totally destroyed at 220 degrees).
Throughout the entire experiment, the group fed the raw food remained healthy and normal in all respects. The group fed the enzyme-deficient cooked food was a different story altogether. They developed all manner of degenerative conditions which affected their physiologies as well as their behavior. Their coats lost their luster; their bone structures developed deformities; their behavior became hyperactive, aggressive and wild. And by the 7th generation, they had lost the capacity to reproduce.
As an interesting sidelight, the vegetation which grew in the pen of the raw food-fed cats was healthy and profuse. The vegetation in the pen of the cooked food-fed cats was sparse and unhealthy in appearance. This was due to the lack of enzymes in their feces which failed to fertilize the soil, unlike that of the enzyme-rich feces of the other group who existed on the enzyme-rich raw food diet.”
Guys I admit it. I can be pretty skeptical sometimes. Especially when it comes to supplements since I was lied to so much as a kid. Instead of reading web sites and reviews that might be fake or sponsored I’d rather just continue this conversation with our tribe and find out once and for all what works and what does not. Feel free to critique my supplment stack, follow my lead or give me suggestions. Oh and the first person that leaves their address below I’ll send you that baggie of samples.

Hey Mike, been following this site for a while and really like your videos. Your supplement cycle looks pretty good. There are supplements that are absolut garbage and I”m glad you’re not taking them.
Here’s where you can find the real truth about supplements and find out which ones are flat out dangerous or useless.

Mike, if your looking for a good protein brand, I would suggest Sun Warrior Protein. Its one of the only proteins I have found and researched that I really like. Its probably a little bit pricier than other protein powders but like you said, the FDA doesn’t regulate anything so we have to go with what we trust.
Also, having tried a few different supplement stacks a couple things I have noticed that really work are:
Yohimbine: Fat loss. I started taking this and dropped fro 10% bodyfat to 7.9% without changing pretty much anything else
Colostrum: Currently one of the only supplements I am taking. It aids in production of GH
N.O. Shotgun: Although I don’t take this anymore (like Mike, trying to avoid caffeine supplements) it was great for a preworkout drink. Tons and Tons of energy throughout the workout.
DHEA: This is a testosterone booster. I added this into a stack I made for a bulking experiment (creatine, glutamine, colostrum, DHEA, and BCAA). These together helped me gain about 8lbs over a month, 2lbs of fat and 8 of muscle (bod pod test confirmed). I was also doing nothing other than working out and eating as it was Christmas break while I did this, so I’m not saying those gains were just from the stack, but I’m sure it helped.

Hey Mike great stuff! I am not really focusing on body building at this point, more endurance training, but am considering a supplement to help boost testosterone and GH since I am not getting younger. I switched from typical vitamins and now get my vitamins through Juice Plus, whole food nutrition from 17 fruits and vegetables in a capsule. Got to tell you what a difference, in so many ways. If you get a chance check out my web site. Keep it coming brother!!

Hey, I’m in my late 40′s and just have been working hard since January to get back in shape. The only suppliments I use are Protein Powder from EAS and a good Multi Vitamine. I’m having good results in strength but my main problem is that even though I can see fat loss in almost every part of my body I still have this nagging belly. Is there a supplement that can help with the last part of fat loss to help me lose this final area?

I’m interested in the cat experiment, can you post info on the study – the name of it, who did it the year – where can I read it!!?? I eat an all-raw diet and love it! So much energy and clarity. It has reshaped me so that some friends didn’t recognise me after a year!
I also had two cats – one lost her teeth when young and so couldn’t eat mice etc. The other one has eaten ‘raw’ mice, voles, birds etc every day. The one with no teeth died a couple of weeks ago – had been going downhill for a long time. The other is still young and shiny. Maybe this is not just down to the enzymes but all the other nutrients that we get from natural food which work synergistically and in ways that we don’t know about yet. I’m definitely on the side of natural as far as possible, however with intensive farming and polytunnel food that gets no rain (which delivers MSM to the plants) it can be difficult…
Keep up the good work – my husband is hooked on your site!

Thanks for the info on jacked up. I thought about takeing it but want to get my T levels tested first. I’m 40 now but still have that boner in the morning. I’m takeing animal packs for my malti-vitamins, o-mega 3 fish oil, q 10 and a b complex. I don’t think that you can but every thing in just one pill and get the amount you need for your daily dose of malti-vitamin.I also use hemp protein and whey protein for my shakes. I mix in some universal greatine with my vitamin water or gatorade before and after my work-outs. I haven’t thought about adding anything else for now but I have been looking into the enzymins. If you think I should add anythink else let me know.

This information will be invaluable when one passes age 60. So much of health care for older persons is the result of what we did or did not do in our 30s and 40s regarding optimal nutrition, supplementation and weight lifting. When one is young is the best time to prepare for elderly health. Returning to those basics, as this program does, can be better than a visit to the doctor’s office. This is because the body remembers how to react to past practices.

Bee pollen is a complete food. It has everything in it.From protein to anti oxidents to phytochemicals plus all the vitamins. It is used to give you energy big time. I used to play judo which is a wrestling sport and would become fatigued after about 1/2 hour but with bee pollen you can go like 2 hours. It has growth hormone also. The russians have used it and it was shown to keep people alive into their hundreds. It has always been the secret ingredient in honey not the pasturised kind but the natural out of the hive kind.

Hey Mike,
For Protein you might want to go to either Muscle Feast.com, for Whey, Micellar Casein, also they have a lean gainer that I especially like, or if you would want to try Egg White Protein Increadibody.com has a 100% Egg White that is Kosher.
Both of these companies don’t put any junk in their products. Also they won’t kill you on shipping charges.
Check it out!

Why bother with chemically extracted diet supplements when the essentail nutrients we need abound in whole foods?
If you want enzymes in concentration, get a juice extractor and put greens and fruits through it. Cabbage greens with apple, makes a delicious drink which is very nutritious and packed with good digestive enzymes. Carrot juice from just three large carrots taken daily will improve the eye-sight. I tried this recently and notice a big difference within the month – I could use the computer without glasses, something I have not been able to do for years.
Better yet, take a good look at what you are eating. Make sure your have plenty of fresh fruit and veg, then expand the variety of veg from the freezer cabinet. Mostly it is good stuff, though the cheaper brands may have added sugar to boost flavour – look at the pack. Eat plenty of eggs and lean meat which will be rich in essentail fats. Drink whole milk and use grains sparingly.
With a healthy intake of the delicious foods mentioned above, what possible use could supplements be? Supplements can only be of use to those who do not eat properly in the first place, or those who seek a short-cut to fitness. I have known a number of supplement users in my time and they were the most unhealthy, lack-lustre individuals you could wish to meet. Not a single one attained any level of fitness worth mentioning and most complained of lack of energy. The supplements simply put them out of balance.
Eat well, sleep well and train well and the results will speak for themselves over time.
Vic Dale
