To cut to the chase, I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed and when I have a question I go to people I trust to help me figure things out. Wait a minute, that actually makes me smart
You all know I want to burn fat, stay strong and build muscle at the same time.

All these online experts were telling me it’s not possible, but I just wasn’t buying it.
I decided to contact my buddy Eric Talmant who is a functional diagnostic nutritionist and a powerlifter. He knows his stuff when it comes to nutrition and he cares about getting strong so he seemed like the best person to go to.
I had just one question for Eric.
Is it possible to build muscle and burn fat at the same time without having to religiously monitor your calories?
He, said yes and it has to do with your Anabolic Environment which is what this podcast is all about!
In this exclusive interview we cover:
1. How men in prison add so much muscle even without the right eating habits.
2. How to create an optimal anabolic environment both internally and
externally.
3. What foods are anabolic for pre and post workouts.
4. Exercises they do in the military that is building hybrid super muscle like crazy.
Here’s the link to the exclusive interview:

Please leave pod cast on Optimum Anabolic Environment up for a while longer!! My broadband runs slower towards end of billing cycle and I want to download it but it’ll take too long… If possible thanks. (my wife is also trying to download an Ep of her favourite US show.). Thanks for the great info. Michael from Down Under.

Mike,
Great interview and great information. I’m with you, I believed that a person can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time, but too many people told me that you were either gaining or cutting. I’m glad that you guys are putting this together, it can help bring the health and fitness community out of the dark age that we’re in. Thanks.

Some good ideas about long strength, but the idea of a new fibre type is dodgy.

Oh read this post and let me know if you feel the same. I remember when I first read about it in the Purposeful Primitive it sounded quacky, but the proof is in the pudding and it makes sense. Like we said you won’t find it in text books, this is more something you have to have an open mind about and experience for yourself.
Here’s the post you shoud read if you have a few minutes Steve.

Could we have some more information about the anabolic and catabolic foods? And when to eat what?
The interview conered a lot of ground in 46 minutes, and I got some good information that I plan on trying. Those Special Ops workouts are a bit much, at my age, thiough.
400 lb log and all. Teamwork is the name of the game, here.
Will have to listen to this interview again, and take some notes this time.

Hey, this is about the best information I have heard on the subject. Typing is almost the only way I know how to do this besides trial an error. Trial an error is not good because you will probally get fat before you figure it out so just get typed.

In this ever changing world of bodybuilding, strength training and supplementation and endless theories and views on muscle building and fat loss I found this interview very informative and interesting because it comes from a very different point of view and points out factors I never really heard by these so called experts.I definitely believe you can build lean muscle and burn fat at the same time because I’m doing it as I’m writing this.I had never heard of Eric Talmant before this interview but I believe him wholeheartedly. Thanks guys for this groundbreaking interview.

i agree with him about the prisoners. but i think that its more about there survival instincts. because they want to be stronger so that if somthing happens they can defend themselves, but they also get bigger because they want to be bigger so that ppl are less likely to go after them

Good point so a survival fight or flight reaction helps create an anabolic environment.

As a lifting/strength enthusiast and history teacher…I am absolutely loving this! Keep the info coming! After reading the Warrior Physique Report I grabbed my 100 lb sandbag and went for a mile walk switching shoulders every block. Interesting to feel the imbalances and weaknesses this little jaunt revealed…and I’ve been working out over 30 years! You guys are really “renaissance men”. Thanks for inviting us along!

Ha! I’ve been watching the SEALS BUD training on You Tube, and thinking that those guys are getting really fit and strong and losing fat before I even found your Blog. Yeah great info. I don’t have anywhere to flip a huge tyre end over end, but I can and will do long walks up and down hills with a heavy pack on. I’ve been doing 25 push ups / 10 pull ups / 30 (body weight) squats / and 30 bicycle crunches as a circuit, and repeating it five times with minimal rest between sets and exercises three times a week for four months. I’ve now started doing 40 push ups / 20 pull ups / 50 squats (with a 44 pound barbell) / and holding a “static” v sit up position until it hurts (X2) followed by 20 v sit ups and 40 bent over rows (44 pound) just the one circuit 3x per wk. I have lost weight and added muscle. Will apply your suggestions also. can’t wait!!

Hey!, I had more or less the same inspiration than Jon. And I started doing my jogging (twice a week) while holding a rock under my arm (some 20 pounds).
My usual circuit is around St Ferran Castle (I live in Spain), it’s a km. way up until the castle, 3 km around the castle (there is where I pick up the stone) and the km way down to return to my place. So I get quite motivated by the…let’s call it “warrior anabolic enviroment” that the place provides.
About attitude, I guess, by the face of the other joggers that I was doing it right!!
I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks, and I feel results, I’ll let you know when I see them

I like this one and want the next interview so this is my comment. sleep is something I have to work on…with kids and two jobs I don’t always get the 8-hours I should have. Seems hard to get everything in line but there’s a lot one can do to improve their anabolic environment. My lifting friends are top notch though so no complaints there.

My buddies and I set up a tight garage gym and the environment is awesome, everyone wants to get stronger and we all push each other and I can tell everyone is getting leaner. It has to be the environment. I don’t want to count calories…i just want to work out hard. thanks for the mp3, will add it to my collection.

interesting info here it makes alot of sense though because i’ve worked with a few former inmates at work and some gained muscle some did not mainly because they would workout everyday and had nothing much else to do this one guy (Brandon) read a lot of books to educate himself and trained with the bench press he got jacked he explained to me that it was a daily routine and was consistent for years this is why they are jacked and hard from the constant hard work. it makes sense doesn’t it hard work+consistensy= spectacular results unfortunately not everyone is willing to make the sacrifice and effort in jail they pretty much have to

I used to be a Corrections Officer for 20yrs. I believe that the environment in prison is a high testosterone place. Inmates workout because they are scared that if they let their guard down and get soft they will end up being raped, exploited etc they also work out to get rid of boredom . Also most inmates that are not in close or max security have almost 8hrs a day to workout. The prison I worked in had a power-lifting team. The food in prison isn’t as bad as you think. Inmates by law must get 2500 cals. a day plus if they have a job they earn money to buy commisary. They can buy supplements, food, drinks etc.

I just wanna say, that amount of free information that you are giving us, subscribers is amazingly hudge. You are probably the most generous fitness coach ever.
I really appreciate it!
I’m am going to make a fat loss training plan myself, based on information from you, and from other plans I found online(mostly newsletters information), and my college books ( I study physiotherapy)
Is there any chance, that you could give me a quick opinion on it, when I’m done with it? I would be REALY greatfull! Just send me a quick replay if you have a minute.

Hey Elliot
My new years resolution was to get stronger and gain lots of muscle while at the same time trim down and get leaner. I have had a lot of people here at college laugh at my goals and say that it’s impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time but I am DETERMINED that I can do it and this program and interview keeps me believing!
